The last days of my garden

Just thought I’d share these final photos of my garden.  I didn’t spend a lot of time in my garden this year — too much rain, not enough time, away for a good portion of the summer, many excuses, none of them particularly good, but she still rewarded me with some beautiful blooms and scenery.

These pictures were taken last week — before the really heavy frosts started hitting us.

The final bloom on my hardy shrub rose.

I’ve never heard pansies called Johnny-jump-ups before, how sweet 🙂

These are perrenial and grow like weeds almost, self-seeding everywhere — real pansies — the big showy ones are annuals here. I like that name, too.

It’s sad, but they’re all done for now, until next Spring.

[…] a flower and gay meant happy, but nowadays the gay boys take umbrage. Better to call them – as Kathy in Canada does, ‘Johnny-jump-ups’ […]

Thank you so much for dropping by! I don’t know where that name johnny jump up came from, but we use it here for the little perennial type of pansy — they’re always that beautiful purply-blue colour.
